Hi, I finally, after over a year of trying this extension then putting it down because it just didn't work, got around to trying it again. These are some of the frustrations I encountered which I _know_ others are having. The specific issues can be easily be averted by updating the FAQ.
Thanks to chris who posted the following (2009 jul): "I think this is due to not having the "Mode" in the extension Options selected to match the mode on the website. On the Yahoo mail website, you should be using the new version (there will be a link at the top of the home page back to "Mail Classic"), the Classic web site no longer works with the extensions. In the "Tools", "Add-ons", menu select options for the Yahoo extension and set the mode to "Beta". This should solve the "Negative vibes" error. " Adding a 'Check Yahoo Mail options - New Yahoo Mail: ON' to 'Negative vibes' and the associated log output, as the 'NV' error doesn't tell the average user anything. All we know is it didn't work. A couple of years ago, testing the 'New yahoo mail' when it had bugs and wasn't usable, I turned it off and have ignored the options to try it since then. The fact it _must_ be on for the WebMail to work, needs to _at least_ go in the WebMail FAQ. And -it's chris's suggestion again- put a reference in the Webmail/ YahooWebMail FAQ like: Increase your Thunderbird timeouts before setting up an account or using the WebMail extension, based on these articles: Set server timeouts http://kb.mozillazine.org/Modify_Thunderbird_settings (look for 'timeouts') and http://www.givesatisfaction.com/mozilla_messaging/topics/no_way_to_increase_connection_timeout_in_thunderbird_3 (timeouts is no longer an option in TB3) I worked for an ISP and it was completely normal to have clients increase their mail time-out. There has been _no_ reason for a short mail time-out of 60 or 100 seconds, for the past 20 years, since the days of dial-up and local clients (Thunderbird, Outlook, Eudora, etc). Yet application designers and programmers continue to use them. They are one of the first values to adjust for a new user. What's worse, it looks like TB programmers in v3 have buried the option in the Config editor (Tools, Options, Advanced, General, Config Editor..)! For instance: Although the local thunderbird account settings have the options to 'only download headers', and 'leave all messages on the server', there are still so many messages from years of having a yahoo account, that the time-out was reached and an error popped-up before finishing the download. For people installing the WebMail extension for the first time, this is _very likely_ to be an issue and another point of frustration. However, they won't find this Google Group and report it, because they will just give up, like I did, and go back to using Yahoo Mail web interface. Thanks.
