Gmail has IMAP, so you don't need an extension to access it with Thunderbird.

The only hassle with this for you is that it will have to delete your current Thunderbird GMail account and re-download all your email.

After you've deleted your gmail account in thunderbird:

Follow the instructions here: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77695

Then create a new account in Thunderbird. Once you put in your @gmail.com address, Thunderbird will automatically fill in the IMAP and SMTP settings.

I am getting the following when I attempt to check my email for gmail
accounts for last several days:

The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and
sizes. Mail server localhost responded: negative vibes (GMail)

Any thought on fixing it. Gmail is my primary email provider. It would
nice to get it working again soon.
