Heh, I actually followed the hint from another thread (http:// groups.google.com/group/thunderbird-webmail-extension/browse_thread/ thread/6a20f71c4ac817aa) and changed my hotmail to https - this has solved the issue, emails are now being downloaded without any trouble :)
