Folks,

Here are minutes from the Dublin meeting. I am missing a few file
references from the proceedings, but I will fix those. I was having some
(probably self induced) issues with getting files from the ietf meeting
materials/proceedings pages. Please send any comments / corrections.

IETF TICTOC Working Group Meeting
Tuesday, July 29, 2008, 1300-1500

The jabber log can be found at http://jabber.ietf.org/logs/tictoc/2008-07-29.txt

The meeting was called to order by co-chairs Yaakov Stein and Stewart Bryant.
Karen O’Donoghue took the minutes. The blue sheets were distributed, and the
agenda was presented with no additions.

Report on Paris Interim Meeting, Yaakov Stein
=============================================
Slides: tictoc-3.pdf

Yaakov presented an overview of the Paris Interim meeting. The meeting notes
(###) and an initial requirements and capabilities matrix (###) are provided
in the proceedings for this meeting. There was some discussion on terminology
and the consensus represented at the meeting. Everyone is strongly encouraged
to read the full meeting report and raise issues on the list. The working group
needs to continue to work to collect and understand the requirements. On path
support was discussed at some length including the definition of on-path
support and security issues associated with it. Several felt that more
information was needed and participants were encouraged to post to the list.

Requirements, Silvana Rodrigues
===============================
Document:  draft-rodrigues-lindqvist-tictoc-req-00.txt
Slides:  tictoc-2.pdf

Silvana presented the updated requirements document. Stewart Bryant pointed out
that there was some reluctance on the part of participants to commit to
numbers, but that we really need to start putting these down. Blank numbers
people will ignore. Stefano Ruffini pointed out that we need to define and
amplify on the terms used to define the requirements. Marshall Eubanks
indicated that we really need to understand the time duration over which these
numbers apply. Further discussion was directed to the list.

Modularization Draft, Karen O’Donoghue
======================================
Document:  draft-stein-tictoc-modules-02.txt
Slides: ###

Karen O’Donoghue provided an overview of the updated modularization draft. The
primary discussion point is that the modularization draft has evolved into a
more generalized architecture document. It is expected that each of the
solution documents will reference where they fit into the architecture
document. There were questions on the definition of frequency and time
distribution as an application layer. Was an OSI like model appropriate as a
starting point? The working group was directed to the ITU G.805 document for
definitions of time and frequency. There were jabber discussions on the
priorities of attacking problems.

RAN Synchroization Requirements, Lan Wang
=========================================
Document:  draft-zhou-tictoc-ran-sync-req-01.txt
Slides:  tictoc-4.pdf

Lan Wang presented a discussion on the Synchronization Requirements for RAN &
Backhaul Update. Marshall Eubanks asked about the geographic distribution or
size involved in the 1.5 microsecond requirements. These requirements need to
be fed into the requirements draft.

Further Discussion on the Discussion on Requirements Table
==========================================================
The agenda item for upcoming steps was tabled for further discussion on the
requirements document as the requirements need to be completed prior to the
definition of some of the next steps. Again the conversation focused on the
definition of terms and how they mapped to the different solutions. Marshall
pointed out that there is implicit time averaging and that the columns don’t
have the same averaging windows. It was proposed to have a breakout session at
2:00 pm on Wednesday to further develop the table.

The meeting was adjourned.
