Hello,
Here is the info regards an SNMP agent for the PTPBASE-MIB, that has been
developed and made available by Alan Luchuck.
Thanks Alan,

Hello,
I've created an SNMP agent for the PTPBASE-MIB, and made it available
publicly for demonstration purposes. I hope it will be useful to you
and to the IETF TICTOC WG for evaluating the PTPBASE-MIB.
In demo mode, SNMP Research's agent code generator puts in unchanging
dummy data for the MIB objects. Replacing the dummy data values with
more realistic data values or function calls that return live data is
pretty simple. I'm under unrelated project deadlines, but if someone
can provide more reasonable sample values, I may be able to substitute
them into the demo.
There are two ways to try out the demo:
- Traditional SNMP;
- A web interface
To use traditional SNMP:
- Send to ciagent.snmp.com, port 161 (the standard SNMP port);
- Use noAuthNoPriv USM user "public" (no auth or priv passwords needed);
One can also use SNMPv2c "public" or SNMPv1 "public".
- Request the ptpbaseMIB object, OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.99.15.1.11.1. To
build the SNMP agent, I had to assign an OID to ptpbaseMIB. I
assigned it's OID in the SNMP Research private space. I assigned
it "enterprises.99.15.1.11.1".
To use the web interface:
- Use the URLhttp://ciagent.snmp.com:280/subtree/ptpBaseMIB. Omit
a trailing slash. When prompted, the username is "Guest", no password.
For demonstration purposes, the web interface is a little easier to use.
But there really is an SNMP agent underneath it, so you might want to
actually throw SNMP requests at it to convince yourself.
Hope this effort is helpful to the TICTOC WG. If nothing else, knowing
that an SNMP agent can be produced from the PTPBASE-MIB may help advance
the standard.
Please let me know if you have questions or comments.
PS: Over the last few days, the server with the PTPBASE-MIB agent has been up
and
down due to environmental issues. The server and agent are up now, but there
is a possibility it may go down again if more work is needed to correct the
environmentals. We plan on keeping the PTPBASE-MIB agent running at least
through IETF 86, so if you cannot reach it at a given time, try again later.
Hope it is helpful to the TICTOC WG!
Regards,
--Alan

This draft is a work item of the Timing over IP Connection and Transfer of

Title : Precision Time Protocol Version 2 (PTPv2) Management
Information Base
Author(s) : Vinay Shankarkumar
Laurent Montini

Filename : draft-ietf-tictoc-ptp-mib-05.txt

Abstract:
This memo defines a portion of the Management Information Base (MIB)
for use with network management protocols in TCP/IP-based internets.
In particular, it defines objects for managing networks using
Precision Time Protocol, specified in [IEEE 1588-2008].
This memo specifies a MIB module in a manner that is both compliant
to the SNMPv2 SMI, and semantically identical to the peer SNMPv1
definitions.
