My personal view.

Machine learning is in many ways, a word introduced when its use got larger 
and more complex. Same with analytics, Prior to that we would refer to 
components like most recently used, customisations, collation, history and 
frequency that we built into our software. Analytics are just measurement.

That is customisations and responsive solutions grew into machine learning. 
A key example is most machine learning extracts decision trees from big 
data, but we can extract decision trees from our brain or other sources as 
well, then tiddlywiki allows us to realise the value of decision trees in 
our software.
