Thanks to all! Eric's solution worked perfectly of course. It looks to me as though http://neilsandbox.tiddlyspot.com/ would need to be similarly tweaked. (I am completely clueless about jQeury so I'm too intimidated by Tobias's plugin to investigate that one further).
I still don't understand why I didn't have this problem until I switched to version 2.6.0. Now I wonder if there are other broken things in my upgraded TWs.
