I'm afraid that the `sameday` filter operator is the problem here -
currently it only supports testing the `modified` field.

I've added a suffix for 5.0.9 to the sameday operator that permits the
field to be specified. For example:

<$list filter="[tag[todo]!tag[done]sameday:start-date{!!start-date}]">
