Hi Jon, My custom search box [1] is quite complex since it uses a lot of <$list> widgets that are resources hungry because they repeat the same search many times (I didn't find a better way). And if your tw is big, the combination of the two factors is probably the best explanation for the observed slow down.
Have a look at Danielo's context search plugin [2]. Maybe it's faster for you.
