It sounds a bit like you tried TiddlyWiki a little and some gut feeling tells you that Twiki is a much better solution for what you have in mind.
Confluence isn't bad either and neither is Dokuwiki. All these solutions are designed for certain usecases. TiddlyWiki isn't an Enterprise wiki, unless you get that very own TiddlySpace up and running. So long as you work mostly by your own and perhaps with one or two collaborators, TiddlyWiki works in the most flexible way you need it... much more than any of the above. If you need user authentication and all that jazz, you're right, it isn't your product of choice.
