What browser are you using? Apparently not all browsers are configured to display internal PDF data. Also, check that you have a PDF viewer plugin installed in your browser.
About the mail -- this is one of the problems with TW compared to other systems. You can't just copy an email into TW and get anything except text. You could copy the source code of the original mail (as HTML) and paste it in, and maybe (haven't tried it) images that are on external servers will show up. This works with web pages. But if you want to have the tiddler self-contained you will have to download images, drag them into the TW, and then change the image links in the source code to point to the images you dragged in. Alternatively, you can download the images locally, and then point the images to the downloaded images. Either way it's a hassle. Printing the mail to a PDF is a good idea, but the PDF data is not very compact, and you're likely to run out of space fairly quickly.
