My take on it is that we shouldn't be dictating someone's workflow. If this modification prevents people from using TigerVNC in the manner they want to use it, then we should revert it, because like I said, you can accomplish exactly the same thing with vncserver -fg &
I will make the modification to the script and man page and spin a new build.
