DRC,

I think something is wrong still. I managed to get icewm kinda, sorta
working. I get the same odd behavior in now, the screen is still not
rendering correctly. Actually I've got one session that is more or less
gnome (even though my default desktop is KDE) and one session that is more
or less icewm.

What happens though is that when the vnc session first is rendered on my
client, it appears correctly, just for a brief instant. It immediately then
goes to a blank screen, but if you drag your cursor around you can make some
of the screen elements appears. And as I stated earlier, you can actually
do certain actions.

Would this be related to the font issue in anyway? I didn't so far make the
change that you suggested. Instead, I was about to get the vncserver to
start by loading all the font files and the font server as I indicated in my
earlier post.

Also, I do note that you default xstartup file, twm is NOT commented out.

Any further advise you can give is most appreciated!

Regards,

Subject: Re: [Tigervnc-users] another issue - configure a desktop of our
choice

Well, for every one that chooses to edit xstartup, it's been my
experience that there are 100 more that will submit a support request
asking why they don't get Gnome/KDE in their VNC session, which is why
we added the additional lines that attempt to load the default window
manager. Perhaps they're broken in Fedora 11. However, you can simply
comment out everything above

[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources

to get back the old behavior. If it's still broken, then that means it
was broken before we added the xstartup patch.

edit the file xstartup located in the user's home directory under .vnc. So,
we'd normally edit something like /root/.vnc/xstartup or maybe something
like /home/mike/.vnc/xstartup.

the lines we need to start icewm and commenting out the twm no lnoger work.
Even slightly worse is that we can start the vncserver now and we can attach
to it from a client, but even with xstartup completely as defaulted, the
desktop is all screwed up. It looks like it tries to display gnome desktop,
but it's a mess and you can only make it visible by dragging your cursor
around the screen. It is working, in a manner of speaking, as I can execute
some apps if I can manage to make a bit of the menu bar visible.

need the option to install a minimalistic desktop, and as above, our current
choice is icewm.
