If you were going to attempt it first have a tour of the Stanford Research facility in Sunnyvale, CA. You can see the glass blowing used for the lamp and the filter. The manual for the PRS10 explains how it works.

That's about what I think, too. Still, it seems to me that the dedicated homebrewer could overcome these hurdles.
