They are used for things like bolts on tractors. I have a pretty big doubt that it has any application in a GPS antenna. US pipe thread in the sizes 1/2", 3/4", and 1" are 14TPI, they are not "1.0 inch" in any dimension, however. It is pretty common to use standard pipe fittings in antenna work.
