Hi Bill,

It is nothing too mysterious. It is simply a pleasing position for
the hands to be in... forms sort of a smile.

This question has been asked on the various watchmaker lists for
a long, long time, and the conclusion always seems to be the same,
10:10 provides a pleasing appearance to the hands.

Excuse me for asking a non-hardware question, but I'd like to know
the origins of the time 10:10 being shown on clocks and watches in
advertisements for same.

The one that tipped me over the edge was the ad on the back of Science
News for August 1, 2009. A talking watch says, "Ten-ten AM ..." as
the hands show 10:10.

How far back does that tradition go?
