If they didn't down it they would be liable to damages if someone or something got damaged it was certainly cheaper to down it in a ehm... controlled manor.

Besides, its a perfectly viable excuse to follow up on Bob's point... it's fun to blow things up. Just the footage indicates that they enjoyed setting the show up.
