I'd much rather see a commercial venture holding this stuff. IMO, university libraries really do not give a damn about what working engineers really need. It's all for professors and there is very little to do with actual hardware other than some journals like RSI.
I virtually never found anything useful to me in the MIT libraries. The closest thing they had to hardware was a collection of Sam's Photofacts (? sp) for very obsolete radios. This collection is for a working lab, not a college library.
