I bought my used hp-53132A from a local surplus dealer together with a
new spare display, because the display was as well already grey-shaded.
It looks like this is a well known issue on vaccuum fluorescence
displays, because the previous owner was prepared and had some spares in
their stock.
The spare display is manufactured by the japanese company 'itron' and
has the item no. 'CC1187G' on the backside.
The HP manual I have lists DS29 as CP3033A 0950-2327 on the schematic
sheet and PC assembly list as Samsung INB-12MM53T with Agilent P/N
5040-0023.
That should add to the search list of replacements.
