Moin, As usual, while looking for something completely different, i stumbled over an old report (or rather book chapter) by Stein and Vig about the basics of frequency standards (or rather frequency sources) for communication systems. It is like an early version of Vig's tutorial, but with a lot more text and explanations. It also contains here and there gems of short sentences explaining things you've always wanted to know, but never knew how to ask. So it's worth to read even if you already know the topics quite well.
