Hi Paul I'm not sure if we're talking about the same thing, on the GPIB interface schematic I'm looking at there's four 74LSxxx ICs used for address decoding and buffering followed by an MC68488P interface adapter driving a pair of MC3447P bidirectional bus transceivers and that's it.
