A Schmitt Trigger avoids glitches at the input, not the output. It does prevent the input circuitry in the gate to switch back and forth between 0 and 1, or, even worse, from going metastable. This by itself might improve timing, if you have problems due to low slew rate. But as Magnus wrote, in general does not improve things.
