Yo all! This is an informational message from your mailing list manager.
- there is a person who is trying to post to the list, using the list
address as sender address (both envelope sender and From: header). These
postings will continue to be discarded; please use your real email address
to post to this list.
- the list is open for list memebers; postings from non-members will be
held. I will usually approve those posts and add the poster to the
'accept' list, but there obviously is a delay. Except for obvious spam, I
don't do any content moderation, IMHO so far this has never been necessary.
- some may already have noticed that I'm using greylisting and sender
address verification. In most cases this shouldn't cause any problems, but
if you notice email not reaching the list, feel free to contact me
privately. The address 'zag' at fortytwo.ch is exempt from almost all spam
prevention measures for now, so you should always be able to reach me
there.
- I block the entire IP space from some countries. If you get a rejection
because of that (it will say something about zz.countries.nerd.dk in the
rejection message), see above. I'll whitelist your IP or your country. (I
won't debate which countries it affects. Feel free to guess - no politics
involved, it's only about spam fighting.)
- hotmail users: about 40% of the spam I receive comes through hostmail.
In consequence, I have started to list hotmail's outgoing mailservers as
they send me spam, and I'm thinking about totally blocking hotmail from my
machine. YaHoo, GMX, AOL and some others prove that it is possible to run
a really big email system without being a big spam source, so in my opinion
this clearly is hotmail's problem. So if you want to use a hotmail address
on this mailing list, use some other mailserver to send the mail (I don't
block hotmail addresses, I only block hotmail's mailservers.)
