Hi Everyone,

I'm planning to buy a small stack of Soekris 4801 systems to eventually get the distributed monitoring (with IPv6 support!) that we've talked about occasionally.

My thought was that I'd buy them, load an embedded FreeBSD system with the monitoring setup (ntpd, jabber client, bunch of perl scripts etc etc) and ship them around the world to friendly places promising to provide connectivity and a few watts of power for them.

While the time I'm putting into the project really is worth more, I'd rather not spend $2000 on the systems, compact flash cards and shipping all on my own. :-)

So I was wondering if the community thinks it'd be inappropriate to put up a link on the www.pool.ntp.org soliciting contributions for this?

For businesses I can give receipts for the contribution. If you are in the US and need it tax deducted otherwise then I can't do that, but ntp.isc.org has a donation page and ISC is a non-profit.
