Ok, following is from one of the border routers at AS4838 in Adelaide,
Australia:

0.au.pool.ntp.org: 203.24.121.35 - 13+ hops - 44ms avg ping
1.au.pool.ntp.org: 61.9.198.77 - 13+ hops - 38ms avg ping
2.au.pool.ntp.org: 202.125.40.143 - 11 hops - no response to pings
0.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 203.63.6.1 - 10+ hops - 102ms avg ping
1.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 203.161.95.174 - 13 hops - 61ms avg ping
2.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 61.9.198.77 - 13+ hops - 38ms avg ping
3.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 202.191.97.130 - 3 hops - 1ms avg ping
4.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 202.55.152.4 - 15 hops - 26ms avg ping

3.ntp-pool is my server and is at the end of a 100Mbps link between two
cabinets in the same room in the data centre. It has an AS path length
of 1, everything else will be at least 2.

The following is from my home ADSL2 connection inside AS9556:

0.au.pool.ntp.org: 203.214.28.208 - 11 hops - no response to pings
1.au.pool.ntp.org: 203.30.99.35 - 17+ - no response to pings
2.au.pool.ntp.org: 202.125.40.143 - 8 hops - no response to pings
0.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 61.9.198.77 - 13+ hops - 64ms avg ping
1.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 150.101.72.73 - 7 hops - 21ms avg ping
2.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 150.101.116.228 - 8+ hops - 2238ms avg ping
3.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 59.167.252.133 - 8+ hops - 55ms avg ping
4.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 202.135.38.18 - 11 hops - 78ms avg ping

And also from an Adelaide cable link from Telstra (AS1221):

0.au.pool.ntp.org: 202.74.170.194 - 12 hops - 71ms avg ping
1.au.pool.ntp.org: 203.30.99.35 - 16+ hops - no response to pings
2.au.pool.ntp.org: 130.102.128.23 - 18 hops - 55ms avg ping
0.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 61.9.198.77 - 11+ hops - 95ms avg ping
1.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 202.135.38.18 - 13 hops - 115ms avg ping
2.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 203.63.6.1 - 16 hops - 38ms avg ping
3.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 150.101.72.73 - 7 hops - 12ms avg ping
4.ntp-pool-test.logidac.com: 150.101.116.228 - 15 hops - 177ms avg ping

So, it looks like it is a definite improvement, although there
definitely room to improve things more.

Darryl
