Hi folks, I've put a DNS page on the wiki that gives the status of the project and lists the things that should be done before pushing the big red button.
http://www.socialtext.net/ntp/index.cgi?dns For your convenience, here's the #1 priority listed on the site: Find a reliable GeoIP service (This is the main restriction before going in beta.) Right now we're using OASIS Web for free, if that doesn't work we use Maxmind Web at 0.0004$/request. This is pretty slow so we cache the data to get more speed and to save some money, but it would be way easier to have the MaxMind GeoCity database directly on each server. The cost for MaxMind GeoCity is $370 initial + $1080/year for weekly upgrades. There's also the possibility of upgrading only every six month for $370 initial + $180/year. Maybe we could get MaxMind to sponsor the project. I also have been told that the GeoPoint database by Quova has the best quality geolocation information in the business. They don't seem to be well known in the tech community, so we might be able to convince them to sponsor our project in exchange of having their logo on our web site. Have a great week-end, GFK's -- Guillaume Filion http://guillaume.filion.org/
