Wouldn't it be a simple solution to split off the RxD wire from the serial line, and connect it to a second serial port, on the same or another computer? RS232 isn't multipoint, so TxD should be kept to a single port. It's hardly used in this application anyway (only for receiver config). This way it would even be possible to feed a range of gps devices and applications from a single receiver. I guess the receiver has the power to drive a port or two; if not a max232 as a buffer would solve that. Max232 is a serial buffer/driver ic, costs virtually nothing and +5V is at hand for the receiver.
