Hello, I am a long-time user of Timidity and I am trying to create a mix
CD for her based on some MIDIs she has of Mozart's Requiem mass, to help
her with choir practice.

I have understood that with these MIDIs, I can use "--mute 0,-2" to mute
all channels but channel #2 (in this case, the Alto voice) - and I have
done the inverse, "--mute 2", to output to two different wave files. I
have then used sox to join these wave files together again, so that the
Alto voice is on the left channel, and the orchestra and the rest of the
choir is on the right. I can then for example burn this to a CD, so that
she can adjust the relative volume of the Alto voice using the Balance.

My problem is: When muting all but the alto voice, the resulting audio
output *starts* at the alto voice - which doesn't start to sing until
quite a while into the piece - thus the two files don't sync up. Is
there any way of having the offset of the unmuted voice be the same - eg
that in stead of starting where the first note on its channel is - it
starts where the first note in the whole document is (and subsequently
having only silence)?

Alternately, is there any way to pan the channels in Timidity or any
other MIDI playback system, so that the output is stereo, in the
configuration I described above?

Thanks in advance and regards,
Tore Sinding Bekkedal
