In KTiny we've recently added a couple of very small applications. They're more a proof of concept though already useful. The idea is that you can create your own client applications without reinventing the wheel, but use KTiny API. Take a look at the screenshots [1]. The source code is pretty small for these and given that they're styleable it makes it ideal for a number of cases. The source code for these is in ktiny subversion repository [2] and will be released with beta2. I hope this can adapt to your needs.
