It's a bad idea to duplicate groups. Well defined groups should never olverlap, so I don't see why you want to duplicate groups ?
It's important to defined groups according to area of management instead of according to your users roles. If several users share the same roles, they are both assigned the same group. It's important that groups completes each others and not overlap each others. Otherwise, access rights becomes unmanageable in production environment.
