The purpose of this post is to describe a problem we encountered so that: 1. others may avoid the same (potentially major) problem. 2. Anyone with a solution can document it.
The problem (v.5.0.1): 1. In the properties, the default accounts for payables was set to account X (this is the values that the accounts payable field is automatically set to when you create a new partner). 2. Some partners had their default account set to this accounts X. 3. We deleted account X. 4. After deleting the account, it was no longer possible to create new partners (even after removing all references to the account in the properties, products, invoices and partners).
