Hello,

Pardon the ‘newbie’ questions, but I have recently begun looking at OpenERP
as a replacement to our mid-range legacy ERP system. I am reading the manuals
and watching the screencasts, etc, as well as have installed the software.

Without a doubt, the learning curve is daunting.

1. Our business is industrial product distribution, sales, and warehousing.
Basically an industrial supply house. I am interested to correspond with any
users in a similar environment. We are USA-based also.

2. My most important question at the moment is the flexibility of the chart of
accounts in General Ledger:

Our current system uses a GL Account # schema:

llll.aaaaaa.ssss

where l = location coding (multi-warehouse)
a = primary G/L Account #
s = sub-account

so, we can have an account 100.60565.650 - which translates to: Warehouse
#100.Vehicle Repairs.Vehicle #650

which makes for a very fine-grained ledger.

Is this type of ledger number possible in OpenERP? Can somebody point me to
the best documentation for this topic?

Before any other considerations, I want to be certain we can support our
book-keeping requirements or there is no need to pursue further.

Cheers!

V. Schmidt
