Well, the (german) bank code BLZ is not the same as the BIC/Swift address.

The Swift address is an international code, whereas the german bank code BLZ is
national. Nevertheless in germany the Swift usally isn't known or used for
anything else then international transfers.

The BLZ is

  NNN NNN NN

(just numbers identifying branches or bank divisions of all banks, loosely
sorted by the region, e.g. 700 202 70 for HypoVereinsbank München, 70150000 for
Stadtsparkasse München, 711 200 77 for Hypo Vereinsbank Prien (a little town
near Munich)).

The Siwft address is

  BBBBCCLLbbb

(with BBBB = bank ID, CC = country code, LL = town ID, bbb = branch ID).

So why is BLZ important? Well, really nobody uses Swift nationally and it's
very likely you don't get the Swift-BIC of customers or suppliers at all.
The german Postbank doesn't publish the Swift addresses of it's branches on
it's website (if you're not a customer it may be hard to get it).

So what can we do? What did anybody else in germany using OpenERP do?

Thx,

JT
