Excuse me, I don't read all post, your source launch the excel on the server 
not in client.

You can install pxgo_openoffice_reports or the kaspars' ooo module, these 
modules create new report types and then you can do:



<report>
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <record>
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; <field>oo-xls</field>
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; </record>
