Thanks Phil,

All is now working as expected.

Msp430.gcc v4.5.3 seems to be working well for me so far. Only issues I'm
seeing all seem to be shimmer specific, and are related to I2C and the power
supply monitor operation  which I've been able to work aorund (missing
declarations). Now that I think about it I'll go open issues for these on
the googlecode tracker.
