Thanks to all the people on the To: list and others that I
probably missed, I got the MicaZ running in what was my
paltry Mica2 environment.
The lessons learned are:
1. I think the cygwin update needed to get to TOS 1.1.11
(?? or at least .14) requires that the Windows /dev/ttySN
mechanism be working correctly for UISP. This does not
appear to be the case with my USB->Serial adapter as I
described in a previous post today. I've used COM3 as the
serial port all these years, but /dev/ttyS2 is not found
as far as my system is concerned. So caution should be
applied to upgrading when using USB...
2. I found that 1.1.10 is needed for micaz. 1.1.7 seemed to
work but had a problem with message length over the UART from
a micaz. Otherwise .10 had everything I needed and is the
last supported version vis Xbow themselves. Also the
contrib/xbow directory should be used for app development.
This is probably more important for mica2, but the
MakeXbowlocal file contains all the nice radio setting
compiler flags that you would want.
3. Jeongyeup Paek's advice on using micaz was invaluable and
should be permanently posted someplace. Under the title:
TOS_Msg Packet format in CC2420 (MicaZ and TelosB)
if you need to search for it. Basically ALWAYS use mica2
in your MOTECOM, NOT micaz....
thanks everyone
