We are pleased to announce the TinyOS 1.1.1 November 2003 CVS Snapshot.

The November 2003 snapshot features:

-          MintRoute, a new routing module with an improved parent-selection algorithm and greater reliability

-          A new ADC interface which allows for calibrated and non-calibrated ADC reads

-          A new TinySEC usage model

-          Various bug and compile fixes

For a list of changes see:

http://webs.cs.berkeley.edu/tos/dist-1.1.0/snapshot-1.1.1Nov2003cvs/doc/changes-1.1.1.html

In conjunction with TinyOS 1.1.1, the latest task/tinydb code has been packaged in  a Task/TinyDB 1.1.1 November 2003 CVS release.

See http://webs.cs.berkeley.edu/tos/download.html for download and installation info for both TinyOS 1.1.1 and Task/TinyDB 1.1.1.

The intention behind these monthly snapshots is to get the latest code to the community without requiring developers to maintain an up-to-date CVS tree. A CVS snapshot release is very nearly that: a snapshot of the CVS tree in a convenient-to-install package. If you’d like the bleeding edge code and don’t mind the inherent risks, upgrade to the snapshot releases as they become available.  If stability is important to you, you might want to stay with the fully-tested releases or at least fully-test your apps before migrating wholesale to a snapshot release.

In the upcoming December 2003 snapshot:

-          BMAC, a configurable MAC layer featuring CSMA with collision avoidance, gain control, and channel filtering for channel clear decisions. B-MAC raises max theoretical bandwidth from 42 packets/sec to 53 packets/sec, and outperforms the 1.1 MAC layer by over 100% (in terms of packet throughput) while achieving 85% channel utilization.

-          Further TinySEC enhancements
