We use a Garmin GPS18LVC which is an external GPS "puck" with a serial output that reports NMEA sentences in ASCII or binary format. It has an extra line for the 1 Hz GPS timepulse, which we tie to one of the mote's interrupt lines. This is accurate to within 1 usec of GPS time (though it is only reported at 1 Hz).
