I have just posted the first (beta-quality) release of a tool suite called "Mote Network Visualization". MNV is an augmented version of the Ethereal network analysis tool (http://www.ethereal.com) that allows Ethereal to capture and analyze packets from wireless sensor networks. It provides user-friendly and human readable displays and visualizations of traffic activities on mote networks that run B-MAC or S-MAC. Traffic is captured live from a sensor network using a snooper mote and may be analyzed in real-time or saved and processed later.
In addition, for S-MAC, more detailed analysis is possible, specifically: - View packet/byte count for packets flowing in and out of a node - View packet/byte count for packets flowing between any pair of nodes - View listing of S-MAC schedules being used on the network, their activity levels and relative sleep times. - View an associative listing of nodes that are on the same primary schedule. This software has been specifically designed to adapt to the use of any combination of standard S-MAC optional features (global schedule, fast path schedule etc), as well as to adapt to some types of unforeseen changes that you may have made to S-MAC. Future goals include providing a graphical representation of the sleep/listen and send/receive states of nodes over time. Please experiment with this tool if you think it would be useful to you, and please report any problems or bugs to me. This software is still in heavy development, so your input is appreciated. Get Mote Network Visualization at: http://www.isi.edu/ilense/software/mnv/ Source code is available as well as RPMs. -- S.
