Workshop on Applications, Systems, and Algorithms for Image Sensing November 4, 2008, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA Held in conjunction with ACM SenSys 2008 http://research.microsoft.com/nec/events/imagesense08/index.html ========================== The improving performance of small form factor and low power image sensing technologies is constantly expanding the sensing capabilities of embedded, wireless, and mobile platforms, thereby enabling new applications. Effective design and deployment of such applications involves addressing many research issues ranging from efficient platform design; in-situ event extraction; storage, processing and communication of large amounts of image data; and privacy issues inherent to image sensing. This workshop hopes to provide a forum to discuss the latest research, future directions, challenges, and novel ideas for realizing the potential of image sensor networks. Researchers coming from the multiple related fields of imaging technology, image interpretation, embedded application design, wireless and low power networking, and image data management will have an opportunity to interact and synergize. Topics - Applications for distributed low power imaging - Platforms for image and visual sensing for embedded applications - Image analysis and interpretation for sensor networks - In-situ and in-network image information extraction - Multi-modal sensor fusion including imagers - Algorithms for adaptive image capture, communication, and retrieval - Joint optimization of image optics and processing for low power/low cost systems - Mobile device based image sensing systems - Mobility, actuation, and control for and using image sensing - Privacy protection - System architectures, heterogeneous imagers, and infrastructure design - Power management - Industry updates and case studies Submission Submitted papers must be no longer than 5 single-spaced 8.5" x 11" pages, two-column format, using 10-point type. Author names and affiliations should appear on the title page. Papers must be in PDF and must be submitted via the submission site (see workshop webpage: http://research.microsoft.com/nec/events/imagesense08/index.html). All submissions must describe original research, not published or currently under review for another workshop, conference, or journal. Early stage research ideas are encouraged. Accepted papers will be made available on the workshop website.
