Unfortunately it is has more side effects. If we lower the MTU for a bearer and all its links a lot of packets already in the send queue may be too big for transmission, and will never get through, which will lead to link reset anyway. At least that's what I thought until I started writing this mail. But I forgot that this is UDP, not Ethernet, so this is not a problem.
