Hi All: I could be misremembering, but I thought these SAT study findings concerned correlations, not means. That is, the key finding (if I'm recalling correctly) was not that the mean scores didn't decrease without the paragraphs, but that the test scores without the paragraphs didn't predict any worse. Can anyone confirm? Again, I might be misrecalling the results, so I'd like to hear from others.

....Scott

Hi Nancy:

Without time to look for it now, I know that there was a study that examined the
SAT written portion--the part where you have to read a paragraph and then
answer questions about it--without having read the paragraph, just answering the questions that followed. The group that did this fared no worse than the group that read the paragraphs. The point was that the multiple choice format
was not very good at demonstrating any learning based performance.

If I have time I'll try to do a database search or you can try various keywords
like comprehension SAT test construction, etc.

Hi folks,

I am doing a professional development presentation in about 2 weeks on
writing good multiple choice tests.

I'd like to do something interactive to start off. I vaguely remember that somewhere in the universe exists a "bad" MC test. One where almost anyone with a little test taking savvy can guess the correct answers without knowing much
about the subject.

If anyone knows where I can download or buy this test, I'd be grateful.

Enjoy the rest of the week.
