On Thu, 2 Mar 2006, Tollefsrud, Linda went:

Aren't we just as interested in the fact that the acupuncture
(traditional or sham) was just as effective as the drugs -- which are
then, also, presumably placebo-only?

Yes, but the drugs in question were apparently beta-blockers,
flunarizine, or valproic acid--not the more current first-line drugs
like sumatriptan (Imitrex) or rizatriptan (Maxalt). A comparison of
acupuncture versus those drugs would have been interesting.

The study itself is still nowhere to be found at the _Lancet
Neurology_ website, to which my institution has full access. So all
we've got are secondhand summaries.
