If their raw data and the processes that produced them were independently confirmed in some ideal world that might be true. However, researchers are behaving organisms and their claims are their behaviors. Therefore, it is prudent to take into account factors which might influence these behaviors (Bayesian Behaviorism?);-)
The emphasis here is on "claims"; not on "research".
