I was discussing this with a colleague at our institution today and clearly
there are so many variables involved that it's really impossible to make any
blanket statements in this area.
I was just wondering about any real evidence, and obviously the lack of
evidence
in itself speaks to the difficulty of drawing any general conclusions.
I thank everyone for what turned into a lively discussion and even without
evidence I feel ready to discuss this issue from all of its multiple facets
with the next person who just casually spouts off the top of his head,
as if it
were a given, that by definition, being involved in research makes a person a
better teacher.
I hope everyone is still friends ;)
