I asked my friend
and colleague with the cochlear implants about the upper cutoff for his
implants. He, in turn, asked the audiologist at the university hospital where
his surgery took place. In case anyone's interested, here is her response:
The max upper is about 8000 Hz (plenty good for hearing speech sounds). Not too many of us past the age of 18 hear much above 10k. That's why the high schoolers get away with the mosquito ringtone on cell phones.
