Please correct me if I am wrong.....
This article is not about who produces the most black Ph.D.'s... but
more about what institutions groom undergraduate students up the
pipeline to the doctorate. In other words, these are the undergraduate
institutions that have more bachelor graduates moving on to the
Ph.D..... which says a lot about the calibre of student they
recruit...etc. However, this does not mean that these institutions
award a top ranking number of Ph.D.'s to African Americans. Also, this
tracks trends over a thirty year period......
A more precise listing can be found in Diverse Issues in Higher
Education. It is produced every year and gives a more accurate account.
Here is the link for Afrcan American doctorates:
http://diverseeducation.com/top08/top100_graduates.html?appSession=44726580288699
. Here is the total minority ranking:
http://diverseeducation.com/top08/top100_graduates.html?appSession=62726580408935
According to DI, which renders a more realistic picture.. Yale ranks 57
in awarding African American Ph.D.s JSU ranks 4 whereas Nova and
Capella rank top in production.
I subscribe to The Chronicle... and it holds a lot of bias against non
R1 institutions.
