Well, I wouldn't consider any psychologist past or present a "hero", nor am I "proud" of any. I also usually try to introduce a life context to the particular person's contribution. This is usually enough to dispel any "hero worship"
I also find it a peculiar idea that a psychologist serves as a "source of ethical guidance". Fortunately I think most ordinary people don't consider psychologists much at all, and if they are looking for ethical guidance they will go to their friends, priests, ministers, and rabbi's.
