The Department of Psychology at James Madison
University is seeking three tenure-track faculty
members to begin August, 2010: 

Position 1: Developmental Psychology. This faculty
member will be expected to teach: (a)
childhood-adolescent development for psychology majors,
(b) life-span human development, and (c) a senior
seminar in the faculty member's area of expertise.
Candidates who have a documented history of scholarship
and interest in continuing research in infant or child
development, especially research that can involve
undergraduate students, will be highly ranked, Strong
interest in contributing to general education (teaching
and service) is important for this position. (Search
Chair: Dr. Tracy Zinn; Position 0403138).

Position 2: Social Psychology & Research Methods. This
faculty member will be expected to teach: (a) social
psychology, as well as courses in (b) statistics or
research methods for psychology majors. Occasional
teaching of social psychology at the graduate level
and/or a senior seminar in the faculty member's area of
expertise is also possible. Candidates who demonstrate
they can engage undergraduate students in scholarship,
and mentor students who are interested in social
psychology will be highly ranked. (Search Chair: Dr.

Position 3: Biopsychology. This faculty member will be
expected to teach biopsychology for psychology majors.
Ability to teach undergraduate animal behavior,
specialty area senior seminars, research methods,
and/or neuroscience at the graduate level is also
desirable. Candidates who demonstrate they can engage
students in scholarship, and mentor undergraduate
students who are interested in biopsychology will be
highly ranked. Departmental facilities include
laboratory space to support research with human or
animal subjects, including a newly-designed, fully
equipped animal research facility. (Search Chair: Dr.

For all three positions, other courses in the faculty
member's area of expertise and supervision of honors
projects and independent study projects are possible
components of the faculty member's assignment.
Occasional course instruction and supervision of
graduate students enrolled in JMU's M.A. in
Psychological Sciences Program may also be possible.
Also, depending on area(s) of specialization, this
faculty member may contribute to our Behavior Analysis
Concentration, the Alvin V. Baird Attention and
Learning Disabilities Center, JMU's interdisciplinary
minor in Human Science, or other campus programs.
Faculty are expected to develop an active program of
scholarship. These faculty members will serve as
academic advisors to Psychology Majors and contribute
to service activities of the department and university.

Minimum qualifications include:
* Completed doctoral degree in Psychology.
* Prior college teaching experience.
* Strong interest in undergraduate instruction.
* Knowledge of best practices in psychology pedagogy.
* Documented history of scholarship and interest in
continuing research that engages undergraduate
students.

The Department of Psychology is one of the most popular
on campus and serves approximately 900 Psychology
Majors. We also teach over 5000 students each year in
our General Education courses. The Psychology
Department moved into newly renovated facilities in
January 2008 which include research space and equipment
that will support these positions. JMU emphasizes
instructional innovation at both the classroom and
program levels, data-focused approaches to
instructional improvement (program assessment), and
research experiences for undergraduates. The Department
of Psychology faculty are committed contributors to
