Our 30-year-old son was very interested in becoming a music therapist, but all the programs he looked at required what looked like advanced expertise in musical theory, instrumentation like piano, and other serious musical requirements. He's terrific on the guitar, and can read music, but really felt he couldn't fulfill the strict music theory requirements. He's getting an M.B.A. instead. Too bad.
